Louisville, KY – According to the statement, these technical rescue operations are more complex than the typical incidents encountered daily by fire companies and require special certifications for personnel to safely and efficiently perform specific functions.
These functions often involve using specialized tools and skill sets to handle various emergencies.
To prepare the next generation of Structural Collapse Technicians, the Louisville Division of Fire conducted three Structural Collapse Rescue classes over the past few months. These classes were facilitated by instructors from Spec Rescue International.
Fire personnel trained in this discipline will respond to building collapses and other types of infrastructure collapses caused by natural disasters, catastrophic failures, or human causality.
Their expertise will be utilized not only in Louisville but also across the Commonwealth when other departments need assistance, such as during the deadly tornado in Mayfield that struck a candle factory in 2022.
More than 60 members of the Louisville Fire Department participated in the training, along with 15 members from the Pleasure Ridge Park Fire District.

Louisville, KY – According to the police officials, in response to a recent surge in vehicle thefts and break-ins, LMPD has deployed its Air20 helicopter to aid in apprehending suspected thieves. The initiative aims to curb crimes of opportunity targeting vehicles left unlocked in neighborhoods.
“We have a powerful tool in our tool bag with our helicopter,” stated a spokesperson for the Louisville police department. “These thieves operate with a straightforward strategy: load up in a car, drive to a quiet neighborhood, and test door handles. It’s that simple.”
The department urged residents to secure their vehicles overnight and remove valuables to deter such crimes. Their efforts yielded results on June 12th when six individuals, including five adults and one juvenile, were apprehended. The announcement was made via the department’s social media channels, accompanied by footage captured by Air20 during the operation.
The video shows Air20 tracking a stolen Toyota Highlander occupied by eight suspected thieves in the far East End of Louisville. Despite reaching speeds of up to 110 MPH along Shelbyville Road, the vehicle was kept in sight as Air20 coordinated with ground units. The pursuit ended with suspects abandoning the vehicle and fleeing on foot.
“We will continue utilizing Air20 on a nightly basis to combat crime,” affirmed the spokesperson. “It’s hard to outrun a helicopter and a radio.”
The Louisville police department remains committed to leveraging Air20’s capabilities to enhance public safety and reduce criminal activity across the city.

SRC of Lexington, a subsidiary of SRC Holdings Corp., specializes in remanufacturing OEM and aftermarket products for various industries such as construction, mining, natural gas, and power generation.

]]>Gov. Beshear signed Senate Bill 89, which allows the legislative body of an urban-county government to re-employ, as needed, individuals as police officers who have retired from the Police and Fire Retirement Fund.
The Governor also signed House Bill 380, which expands the eligibility of potential peace officers to include individuals who have not yet turned 21 years old at the time of basic training, but who will have reached the statutorily required qualification of being 21 years old by the time certification is completed.
Under current law, all certified peace officers must be at least 21 at the time of certification. This legislation clarifies that training of the officer may occur while the individual is still 20 years old, so long as they will have reached the required age of 21 by the time certification occurs.
Gov. Beshear signed House Bill 540, which will expand definitions related to the use of school resource officers (SROs) to apply to private or parochial schools as well as public schools, creating consistency of expectations across different types of schools.
The Governor said this bill builds on legislation he signed last year which required all public-schools to have a school resource officer per campus as funding and personnel allowed.
The Governor also announced that 31 law enforcement officers from agencies across the state graduated the Department of Criminal Justice Training’s basic training academy. Since Dec. 2019, Kentucky has welcomed 1,115 new officers into the partnership of public safety. Kentucky employs almost 8,000 men and women police officers and sheriff deputies working to create a commonwealth that is safer for all Kentuckians now and into the future.
