With summer in full swing, the Texas heat is at its peak. It is crucial to remember never to leave children unattended in a hot vehicle, even for a brief moment.
This can lead to pediatric vehicular heatstroke, resulting in permanent disability or death.
Cars can heat up rapidly. The temperature inside a vehicle can increase by 19 °F in just 10 minutes and continues to rise, regardless of cracked windows.
Tragically, five children across the nation have already lost their lives this year due to being left in hot vehicles.
If you see young children left alone in a vehicle for an extended period, especially in this heat and when the vehicle is not running, please contact the Waco Police Department immediately.
