Per reprots, the Crown hopes to shed some light on the secret members of the Royal Family. The latest episode, will feature the pair of sisters from the sixties. They will be shown beside their cousin Queen Elizabeth II. According to the historical fiction series, the Queen accepted the lie that the nieces were dead. However, it is not clear when she discovered their true fate. Nevertheless, a documentary suggested the Queen was upset that people accused her of neglecting the pair. Nerissa was born in 1919, and Katherine was born in 1926. They were daughters of John Bowes-Lyon, who was the brother of the Queen Mother. John died in 1930 and was not present when the girls were sent to the asylum.

According to the Daily Mail, when the Queen’s cousins were born with severe learning disabilities, the Royal Family locked them up in an insane asylum and registered them as officially dead. Although the world does not know much about the pair, the Netflix drama, The Crown, plans to investigate the horrible mistreatment these two individuals suffered at the hands of the Royal Family and expose once and for all the brutal truth behind the veil that hid them away from sight from the public.

Sisters Katherine and Nerissa Bowes-Lyon were neglected and forgotten for decades. The pair, who are nieces of the Queen Mother, were hidden from the public because of their learning disabilities. Instead of being shown compassion or sympathy, the two sisters were locked up and treated as prisoners. Both sisters, ages 15 and 22, respectively, were nonverbal. Since they could not speak or engage with the world like they were expected to, the Royal Family ordered them locked away in the Royal Earlswood Institution for Mental Defectives in Redhill, Surrey, in 1941. Their parents were instrumental in getting the two sisters locked away for life.

The pair remained imprisoned at the asylum for most of their lives. Locals referred to the mental institution as “The National Asylum for Idiots.” The pair hardly ever received visitors and were officially listed as dead so they would not put a stain on the image of the Royal Family. The Queen Mother knew that both women were falsely determined to be deceased. She never declared that statement to be untrue and saw no reason to use her monumental power to help her nieces. According to Daily Mail, Nerissa passed away aged 66 in 1986, and Katherine died six years ago, aged 87.
